Germany denies deal on Nord Stream-2 in exchange for US LNG

BERLIN, Feb 12 (PRIME) -- Germany’s Economy Ministry denies having signed a deal with the U.S. over Russia-led Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project in exchange for readiness to buy U.S.’ liquefied natural gas (LNG), Minister Peter Altmaier told reporters Tuesday.

“There is no deal,” he said. “Germany’s intention to diversify its gas supplies is completely independent of other issues.”

Altmaier also said a new contract on Russian gas transit through Ukraine can be struck before the end of 2019.

“I see a good chance for these talks to lead to certain results until the end of the year,” he said.
